What do you bring along into your professional career besides your PhD/Postdoc “degree”? Studies show that roughly 30% of all Swiss PhD candidates remain in academia one year after their graduation. It is even less for Postdocs, even though this is harder to tell. Five years after PhD graduation numbers show about 12 – 18% remaining in academia. Those, who do not remain in academia what do they bring along to the job market? What can you tell people when they ask you what you are going to do with your PhD/Postdoc? Let us have a look at your skills and experience you bring along after completing a PhD and/or a Postdoc. Even though it is quite individual, there are strategies to identify your transferable skills.
